BET organized the record-breaking event as part of the Soul Train Awards to celebrate 50 years of BET’s Soul Train Awards. The Guinness World Records had an adjudicator on-site to ensure the crowd danced correctly, going in pairs for at least 40 feet.
BET mentioned some of the original dancers from the hit TV show “Soul Train” attended the event along with the 40+ Dutch Double Club, the Brooklyn United marching band, and hundreds of locals. The 536 people danced through Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
Guinness ensured there were 536 people present for the event and named the group the new owners of the world record for the longest soul train line. The previous record-holders were a group of 426 dancers at the Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona in 2014.
