(RepublicanNews.org) – Tensions remain high in the US capital in the wake of the release of an internal FBI memo warning of possible armed protests at all 50 state capitals and Washington, DC, through the January 20 inauguration ceremony. The memo predicted protests could begin as early as January 16.
Fox News congressional correspondent Chad Pergram reported on his Twitter account that the nation’s Capitol went into lockdown due to a security threat the morning of Monday, January 18. Washington, DC, local reporters Steve Chenevey and Sierra Fox confirmed the tweet, adding that it was due to a fire at a local homeless encampment under a bridge located about a mile from the US Capitol.

An unnamed source from the National Guard told reporters a propane tank explosion was the fire’s cause but provided no other information. The blaze interrupted a walk-through rehearsal for the upcoming inauguration ceremony.
Law enforcement officials have been working aggressively to protect the Capitol area in the wake of the FBI memo and the January 6 riot at the US Capitol Building. We will keep you updated as future events unfold.
