(RepublicanNews.org) – A stunned nation watched on their televisions, smartphones, and computers as they observed the shocking events that took place at the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. Members of the House of Representatives and Senate were in a joint session at the time and were evacuated to safety by Capitol police officers and other security personnel.
Dozens of protesters have been charged, and as one might expect, questions abound regarding the breakdown in security over the nation’s capital.
As it turns out, there may be a simple answer to those questions. The Associated Press reported that Pentagon officials contacted Capitol Police and offered to send National Guard troops to support their security efforts on January 3.
Then, on January 6, officials from the Department of Justice offered to send FBI agents to back up Capitol Police. Amazingly, the Capitol Police turned down both offers, even after it was clear they were overwhelmed.
With any luck, Congress will appoint a special commission to get to the bottom of the law enforcement breakdown and make sure something like this never happens again.
