Clint Eastwood Wins a $6.1 Million CBD Lawsuit

(RepublicanNews.org) – Renowned actor Clint Eastwood and the company that owns rights to his likeness, Garrapata, won a lawsuit they filed in July 2020. The company and actor received $6.1 million after winning their case.

The well-known actor and Academy Award-winning director sued the company, which is based in Lithuania, because it claimed he endorsed their Cannabidiol (CBD) product. Eastwood filed two suits last year in a Los Angeles Federal court.

His suits alleged three CBD companies misled consumers by indicating he endorsed their products. The actor also accused ten retailers of manipulating search results with meta tags.

Court documents show Mr. Eastwood is not connected to or affiliated with the CBD products in any way. Robert Gary Klausner, US District Court Judge in California’s Central District, issued a default judgment after the company that used Eastwood’s likeness, Mediatonas UAB, failed to respond to summons back in March.

As a result, Eastwood and Garrapata received an award of $6.1 million, broken down as six million dollars for damages, $95K for attorney fees, and an indefinite order preventing the use of Eastwood’s name or likeness without authorization.
