(RepublicanNews.org) – Missouri’s Democrat House Rep. Cori Bush is on record calling for police departments to be defunded, but she’s been paying her husband for private security services.
Bush’s campaign finance records show that she paid Cortney Merritts more than $62,000 for private security services for herself in 2022. While he was acting as her security guard, Merritts and Bush were in a relationship, and they were married in early February of this year.
What’s more, Merritts does not have a private security license, which is required by the city of St. Louis for anyone who provides security for payment. A Missouri official with the regulatory office that distributes these licenses told Fox News that Cortney Merritts has not had an active security license since 2012.
It appears that Bush’s campaign-money payments to Merritts went through a firm called PEACE Security in St. Louis. An archived version of the firm’s website says PEACE hires “security operators” with prior police or military experience.
Cori Bush is a member of the group of female progressive House reps who are colloquially referred to as “the squad.” It includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Bush.
This group has pushed far-left progressive policies and vocally supported the idea of stripping American police departments of their budgets when race issues erupted after the widely publicized death of black Minneapolis resident George Floyd in 2020.
Officer Derek Chauvin can be seen on video restraining Floyd with his knee on Floyd’s neck.
When confronted about the apparent contradiction of wanting to strip citizens of police protection while at the same time ensuring her own security, Bush presented herself as a victim. Instead of answering the question, she replied with, “You want to see me die?”
She added, “Defunding the police has to happen.”
