Dem Senator Condemns Biden’s Doc Handling

( – Members from the left side of the aisle are beginning to speak up about President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents after several caches were found at one of his homes and at the D.C. think-tank that bears his name.

Though she characterized the documents as a “small number,” Michigan Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow said Biden’s own comments about President Trump were “embarrassing.”

In 2022 the FBI raided President Trump’s Florida home, Mar-a-Lago, searching for what it believed were illegally taken classified documents. The raid occurred despite Trump’s full cooperation with the probe, leading critics to conclude the raid was staged by the current administration.

In a January 15 interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press,” Stabenow said that Biden’s “slip-up” was unfortunate, but that the President was cooperating with authorities.

Several batches of papers marked “classified” were discovered at the Biden-Penn Center in DC, and at President Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home the week of January 8.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced last week that the Department of Justice had escalated its “review” of Biden’s document handling into a full investigation. Garland named Trump appointee John Lausch to lead  the investigation. Lausch is the US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

Stabenow’s main concern  appears to be the reputation of the Biden administration and of the Democratic party generally. Despite calling President Biden’s remarks about Trump’s document issue “embarrassing,” Stabenow went out of her way to highlight the Biden administration’s cooperation.

She also lamented the fact that GOP members “loved” the situation and were pleased to have a chaotic situation and a chance to criticize the Democratic party.

Stabenow is stepping down from her senatorial seat after 24 years representing Michigan in the US Senate. She told the Detroit Free Press there was nothing wrong with her health, but it was the right time to step down. Stabenow said she was sure her replacement would be a Democrat.
