DOJ Called to Investigate Major Website for Human Trafficking

(RepublicanNews.org) – One would think that the Department of Justice would automatically protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior on the internet. However, that may not be the case when it comes to a platform that appears to be coercing people to commit immoral and illegal activity.

On April 1, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) sent a letter to Joe Biden’s new attorney general, Merrick Garland, asking him to open a criminal investigation into the OnlyFans website for potential violations of federal sex trafficking statutes.

According to Gosar’s letter, users of the site advertise their interest in traveling across state lines to commit “illegal or immoral activity.” He explained that site activities warrant an investigation due to reports that the platform promotes “illicit sexual coercion,” “prostitution,” and the sharing of material that exploits children.

Protecting “vulnerable people” from coercive behavior should be a Justice Department priority, Gosar concluded. He also gave AG Garland until May 1 to provide a written update on his request.
