(RepublicanNews.org) – Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease expert, expressed concerns during a Sept. 28 appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America regarding Florida’s recently relaxed restrictions for bars and restaurants.
Dr. Fauci, a key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, told ABC anchor Amy Robach the decision to ease restriction was “very concerning.” He added that now is the time to “double down” on countermeasures, not to reduce them.

There’s little doubt the COVID-19 pandemic is a national concern. At the same time, national authorities need to acknowledge the rights of state and local officials concerning the establishment and maintenance of restrictions. The federal government has already issued guidance memos for states to use when considering reopening procedures for schools and businesses.
In a constitutional democracy, the ultimate authority remains with state and local officials to determine what happens (and when) inside their borders. However well-intentioned Dr. Fauci’s concerns might be, they should not be construed to represent state policy or be used to undermine local authority.
