Following Investigation Bombshell, Andrew Cuomo Resigns as New York Governor

( – The clock finally appeared to run out for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) on Tuesday, August 10. So far, Cuomo has managed to avoid criminal prosecution for his alleged mishandling of the COVID-19 response in the state’s nursing homes and long-term care facilities. However, the August 3 release of a 160+ page report discussing the evidence of alleged sexual assault and harassment collected by state investigators marked the beginning of the end of his three-term reign as governor.

Cuomo, along with one of his attorneys, held a press briefing purportedly to announce his resignation. However, it appeared from the outset that the presser might have been intended as a rebuttal to the allegations lodged against him.

Cuomo’s lawyer, Rita Glavin, spent nearly 40 minutes arguing against the August 3 report before turning the microphone over to Cuomo. Following suit, he alleged everyone from Twitter to the country’s “toxic political environment” held some measure of responsibility for his fall from grace.

He also addressed recent personal difficulties throughout his prepared speech. For instance, at one point, he spoke of the “hard and painful period” of time he and his family have endured due to the scandal.

In the end, he said he would resign to save New York taxpayers the millions of dollars he claimed impeachment proceedings would require. His resignation won’t take place immediately. According to Cuomo, it will take effect 14 days from his announcement.
