Credit Card Companies Asked To FLAG These Purchases
(RepublicanNews.org) – With the Uvalde school shooting still relatively fresh in the minds of many Americans, Democrats are continuing to push their policies in an attempt to pass firearms legislation. Prominent gun control advocate and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords recently made a bold request. The activist’s group, Giffords, called on major credit card companies to flag the purchase of guns and ammo.

The advocacy group claimed at least five of America’s mass shooters utilized credit cards to finance their purchases. Giffords also declared that Mastercard, Visa, and American Express have the ability to flag any purchases they feel are suspicious and potentially save lives. The group’s tweet linked to another gun control organization, GunsDownAmerica, which wants major credit card companies to stop labeling the purchase of guns and ammo as “sporting goods.” The group noted these companies should create a new category for transactions of this nature.
GunsDownAmerica also demands that credit card companies place America’s gun stores under a new merchant category code, which the organization claims they’re working on in collaboration with Giffords and Amalgamated Bank to establish. Mastercard, Visa, and American Express are resisting their efforts.
