Gabby Petito Searchers Find Second Body

Body Found Near the Spot Where Gabby Petito Was Discovered

( – Authorities have determined that Gabby Petito’s death was a homicide. The search for Petito also highlighted the family’s plight of a missing Texas man whose body searchers discovered in the same national forest as Petito’s based on witness tips provided during the hunt for the young woman.

Search teams discovered the body of Robert Lowery, a 46-year-old Houston man, near the Black Canyon Trail in Wyoming. A Teton County Search and Rescue dog found the body on a steep slope around 1 pm local time, about 40 to 45 miles from where authorities located the body of 22-year-old Petito.

The father of two went missing on August 20 after witnesses saw him carrying a black duffel bag, tent, and sleeping bag in Bridger-Teton National Park and eating the day before in a Teton Village restaurant. Authorities have not disclosed a cause of death in Lowery’s case. The Teton County Sheriff’s Department stated they don’t believe the two bodies are connected.

Lowery’s family is grateful for the closure, gave thanks to those involved in looking for him, and asked for privacy while awaiting a coroner’s report on the cause of death.
