(RepublicanNews.org) – Senate Democrats announced they would abandon their effort to include a $15-per-hour minimum wage hike as part of their COVID-19 economic relief bill on March 1. However, their plan would cost at least one million American jobs.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) introduced a similar bill in late February to raise the minimum wage to $10 and protect American jobs at the same time.
It’s clear a job-killing $15 dollar minimum wage can’t pass the Senate—but there are better alternatives.
Our bill would raise the minimum wage to $10 dollars and stop businesses from undermining American workers by hiring illegal labor.

Sen. Cotton’s plan protects American workers by requiring employers to use the E-Verify system to ensure job applicants are eligible to work in the United States before hiring them. This bill would dramatically increase the fines imposed on businesses caught hiring illegals.
As Cotton recently explained, it makes sense to tie an increase in the minimum wage to the E-Verify system. Otherwise, “unscrupulous employers” would go out and hire illegal aliens. His bill would ensure American employers “hire American workers first.”
