(RepublicanNews.org) – Republican House members are furious at President Joe Biden, and they’re talking about investigating him for what they claim are false statements about Republicans allegedly cutting benefits for veterans.
During a telephone call with media on April 20th, several GOP lawmakers said Biden was misrepresenting the “Limit, Save, Grow” Act sponsored by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Mike Bost (R-IL) said he was disappointed with Biden’s remarks, and that he had to “calm down” before trying to talk to the President.
GOP Conference chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY), said Biden was “shamelessly lying” about the bill when the President claimed it would cut funding to the Veterans Administration by 22 percent.
The Limit, Save, Grow Act recently passed the House. The bill raises the U.S. borrowing limit by $1.5 trillion (or through March 2024, whichever comes first) but on the condition that the federal government cap discretionary spending at 2022 levels. President Biden has only recently agreed to meet with Speaker McCarthy after almost three months of refusing to do so. But Biden insists he will not discuss or negotiate the debt ceiling with McCarthy.
Stefanik said Democrats and the President were simply trying to cover up their own weakness and the lack of White House leadership. Lying about VA benefits is just one way they’re doing that, Stefanik said, and that the behavior was “nothing new” from the Democratic party.
The Limit, Save, Grow Act also includes cost-cutting, such as throwing out President Biden’s plan to forgive billions of dollars in student loan debt carried by Americans. “Forgiveness” to the borrower would mean that all American taxpayers would then pay off loans that individuals will no longer have to repay from their own pockets.
The Biden administration has campaigned against the act, saying spending cuts would cause inefficiencies in government agencies. The VA itself also claims it fears spending cuts from the Act. A recent press release said the bill would threaten services to veterans.
