(RepublicanNews.org) – Embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) appears to have rebooted to “damage control mode” after a long couple of weeks of remarks deemed by most to be anti-Semitic in nature. She sparked the outrage of fellow Democrats on June 7 when she posted a tweet calling for accountability and justice” for the victims of horrific “crimes against humanity.” Then, she lumped the United States and Israel together with the Taliban and Hamas.
Fellow “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) unsuccessfully attempted to smooth things over a few days later. Omar dug her heels in again during an interview with CNN on June 29, stating she had no regrets about posting the tweet. However, the following day, Omar posted a massive Twitter thread attempting to explain herself and to make up with outraged Democrats.
I am someone who has survived war and experienced injustice firsthand, who is alive today because I was welcomed into this country as a refugee.
I know that many of my colleagues—both Jewish and non-Jewish—deeply share that commitment to fighting injustice. A brief thread.

Omar began by stating she understood the ravages of war and injustice, having experienced both “first-hand.” She acknowledged that many of her Democratic colleagues, Jewish and otherwise, share her “commitment to fighting injustice.”
She went on for several more tweets trying to kiss and make up with Democrats. With her longstanding history of making overly inflammatory statements, the operative question at play has less to do with her intention and more with whether or not she can avoid making controversial remarks and posts in the future. Time will tell.
