(RepublicanNews.org) – Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) sent a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris on June 15 urging her to accompany him on a visit to the US-Mexico border to “observe the ongoing humanitarian crisis” for herself. As of Saturday, June 19, he had not received a response from her. The situation is a bit of a mystery to many because President Joe Biden announced his decision to put Harris in charge of the border crisis on March 24.

Harris claims her role isn’t the border, per se; it’s working to solve the underlying reasons for the crisis. Reportedly, that was the purpose of her recent trip to Mexico and Guatemala.
Harris sat down with NBC anchor Lester Holt for a June 8 interview from Guatemala. According to her, it’s important to identify the reasons why people are arriving at the border so the administration can work to fix them. Continuing, she said it’s her “firm belief” that if people care about the situation at the border, they’d “better care” about learning the “root causes and address them.”
Asked about her plans for a border visit, Harris responded, “We’ve been to the border.” Holt noted that Harris hasn’t, in fact, been to the border. Harris responded that she hadn’t been to Europe either and that she didn’t understand his point.
No one seems to dispute the fact that addressing the underlying causes of the border situation is important. However, no one except Harris is denying the importance of visiting the border too. Rep. Cuellar isn’t the only Democrat raising concerns about Harris’ disappearing act.
