(RepublicanNews.org) – US Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is one of the moderate Democrats roadblocking Biden’s radical spending bill from getting through the Senate. His bipartisan approach to politics recently prompted media outlet Mother Jones to publish an article predicting he would switch sides to join Republicans sometime in the near future. Is the rumor really true, or is this another instance of the media drumming up its own story?
Manchin admits Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has repeatedly tried to convince him to join the GOP. While he’s pondered the potential benefits of an alignment change, he’s never actually considered joining Republicans at the table.
Instead, the Senator says he’s considered becoming an Independent if his Democratic colleagues viewed him as an embarrassment to the DNC. The change would effectively allow him to caucus with Democrats while maintaining his own individual views.

If Manchin did switch sides, Republicans would retake the Senate as a majority. But the Senator insists that will never happen, as his views on taxes and healthcare simply don’t align with the right-leaning party.
Manchin also mentioned that it would look better for Democrats to say they’re trying to convince an Independent to go along with them rather than a member of their own party. It seems this is one rumor that’s suffered from the same problem children often encounter while playing “telephone”: The message simply got distorted along the way.
