(RepublicanNews.org) – President Joe Biden’s policies on immigration are vastly different from his predecessor’s. Former President Trump had strict policies regarding border security and illegal immigration. The current administration doesn’t, and it’s caused serious problems at the southern border.
Encounters Are at an All-Time High
Border Patrol encounters are higher than they’ve ever been. To put the issue into perspective, run-ins with undocumented aliens were over 300% higher in August this year under the current administration than at the same time in 2020 under the previous one.
Border Security reported over 200,000 encounters in August alone, which they say puts them well on track to beat the all-time annual high. The sudden surge of immigration is no surprise as Biden has been extremely lenient regarding border security and consequences for lawbreakers.
Surely the words “thank you” are music to the president’s ears after several sports stadiums and other events chanted a much different response in recent weeks. Migrants, both illegal and legal, admitted they didn’t want to attempt a crossing during Trump’s time in the White House.
One Colombian immigrant who crossed into the Yuma Sector in Arizona noted that thanks to the Biden administration’s lax policies, they didn’t have to worry about US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) deporting them. Some Nicaraguan migrants, who also illegally crossed into the Yuma Sector, noted Biden makes coming to the US much easier. Several illegal immigrants said Trump was a selfish, racist, bad man, citing society needs people to support each other.
Backlash From Both Sides
President Biden’s lenient views on border security have caused disruptions on both sides of the political aisle. Both Democrats and Republicans criticize his policies and mishandling of the southern border, specifically the large numbers of immigrants crossing into the US illegally.
Biden’s inaction has led to a humanitarian crisis at the southern border. Just last month, nearly 15,000 immigrants camped under the international bridge that spans over the Rio Grande River and connects Del Rio, TX and Ciudad Acuña, Mexico.
The surge caused migrants to live in squalor, prompting concern from both Democrats and Republicans. Yet, President Biden and other administration officials have done nothing to change it. Instead, they claim the border is closed, despite reports stating otherwise.
State and local leaders requested the Biden administration’s help, noting they don’t have the resources or staffing to deal with the migrants efficiently. Other states stepped in to aid local authorities but have since had to pull back.
Biden’s poor policy choices may be favorable to those attempting to enter the country, namely illegally. But, they’re bad for the United States, its citizens and the health concerns of immigrants forced to live in squalor.
