Mitt Romney Is the Only Republican to Vote for Masks for Children

( – As cases of COVID-19 seem to be on a declining trajectory, many states are finally ditching mask mandates. On the other hand, Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) staunchly refuses to let them go. The Utah Republican was the only one in his party to vote in favor of keeping children masked.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee recently met to discuss the PREVENTS Pandemics Act (S. 3799) on March 16. Part of the discussion involved the HELP Committee voting on whether or not to mandate masks for children two years of age or older.

Romney’s decision caught flak from many people on social media, including the former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., who called him a disgrace.

Senator Romney notably also voted against Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) legislation to eliminate mask mandates on public transportation. His decision to stand with Democrats on forcing masks upon toddlers is just another example of him drifting into the realm of the Democratic party. Is he a true Republican in name only (RINO)?

Romney also recently spoke at a fundraiser where he issued a dire warning to the GOP and praised Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY), daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Much of this is likely to come back and bite him as these issues are unpopular among many Republicans. Midterms draw closer each day; he could wind up ousted by the year’s end.
