(RepublicanNews.org) – When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, restrictions to keep people safe may have made sense. In Congress, without regular access to the Capitol building and with many members either falling ill or having to quarantine, proxy voting made sense, too. The measure went into effect, and members voted safely from their homes or offices.
That provision, set to expire in March on its second anniversary, is entering yet another extension period until at least the middle of May; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) granted the easement of the rules more time. Universal masking inside the Capitol building has already ended, leaving some to wonder why proxy voting is necessary. Don’t our representatives want to get back to work?
The Epoch Times reports that at least one Republican congressman believes proxy voting helps contribute to the partisanship so rampant in US politics. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) says that without committees, in-person debate, and typical vote processes, the idea of the two parties working together grows more distant.
Allowing lawmakers to vote by proxy and participate in committee hearings digitally have “crushed the ability to govern in a bipartisan fashion,” according to Rep. @RodneyDavis, the top Republican on the House Committee on Administration. https://t.co/9r7Vh3Utkx

Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to the president, is back in the news talking about masking up again if the nation sees upticks in new hospitalizations and deaths. Fox News reports that while Fauci stated a month ago that he saw no surge in the country’s near future, he now says we should be prepared for new restrictions.
It seems apparent that the Democrats truly do desire a never-ending pandemic. Do you agree?
