(RepublicanNews.org) – The Republican-led House of Representatives successfully gained access to 1,799 unredacted emails between Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. These emails span 2015-2016, the last two years of Biden’s time as Vice President, and were previously released, but were extensively redacted. That two-year stretch coincides with the period Hunter Biden sat on the board of Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company at the center of the Republicans’ impeachment inquiry.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) granted access to the unredacted emails to House Republicans after an August request from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer. The NARA letter granting access to these emails reportedly includes “any document or communication” referencing Joe Biden by name or pseudonym.
Comey and House Republicans reportedly are still waiting on more documents to be released by NARA following two additional requests made in August and September.
On December 14th, 2023, House Republicans successfully voted to formalize the inquiry.
The GOP-led inquiry seeks to find out if then-Vice President Biden used his office to enrich himself or his family, to pressure the Department of Justice to be lenient on his son, or to otherwise engage in inappropriate foreign business deals. The inquiry will also investigate whether Hunter Biden accepted bribes directly from Burisma.
The inquiry comes after two IRS whistleblowers revealed that Joe Biden used an alias in email communications with foreign business associates of Hunter Biden, opening the door to further investigation, this time with unredacted communications.
Some House Republicans are quick to note that opening an inquiry does not guarantee there will be a vote to impeach. Representative Matt Gaetz said, “I don’t think we have the votes to impeach anyone.”
The release of these emails and the impeachment inquiry floor vote coincide with Hunter Biden’s defiance of a subpoena from Republican investigators. Hunter Biden also faces a 9-count tax indictment and still faces a 3-count gun charge stemming from a handgun he purchased in October 2018.
