(RepublicanNews.org) – New York’s Democratic-led attorney general’s office filed legal papers seeking to force the Trump Organization to cooperate with a “confidential” investigation.
Signed by Assistant Attorney General Austin Thompson, the filing asked the court to compel the Trump Organization to comply with subpoenas seeking financial information and an interview with President Trump’s son, Eric.
Thompson wrote that the attorney general’s office kept the investigation “confidential” to avoid “reputational harm” to subjects and potential witnesses and to avoid any “prejudice to the investigation.”
Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, announced the action on Twitter, vowing that her office would uncover the truth.
I took action to force the Trump Organization, and specifically EVP Eric Trump, to comply with my office’s ongoing investigation into its financial dealings.
For months, the Trump Organization has failed to fully comply with our subpoenas in this investigation.

The Office of the Attorney General launched its investigation after Michael Cohen, the President’s former personal attorney, testified before Congress in March 2019. According to Cohen, the Trump Organization altered financial statements detailing its assets to receive tax breaks, loans, and other benefits.
Alan Garten, the Trump Organization’s chief legal officer, downplayed the filing, stating the attorney general’s office hadn’t alleged any criminal activity. He also noted that the action was merely a dispute over the discovery of documents and other information.
