NY Mayor: Let Them Eat Plants

(RepublicanNews.org) – New York City’s Democratic mayor is a vegan, and he wants others to eat as he eats, even if they’re sick in the hospital.

On April 17th, Eric Adams gave kudos to New York City hospitals for feeding “plant-based” meals to sick patients. After all, he said, what people eat is “impacting our entire planet”, and he believes the healthcare system should be doing more to care for the environment.

Vegans are those who not only say no to meat but who decline any foods or products that come from any part of an animal. They do not eat butter, cheese, eggs, marshmallows, or any other items that have animal ingredients, and many refuse to wear leather or other animal-based materials as well. “Plant-based” is the newest marketing term adopted by leftists, and seems to be used to avoid saying the terms “vegan” and “vegetarian.”

Standing at the New York City Hospitals+Health Culinary Center in Brooklyn, Adams said, “It is easy to talk about the emissions that’s (sic) coming from buildings and how it impacts our environment, but now we have to talk about beef.” He delivered these remarks as part of his “Greens for Green” initiative.

Continuing on the subject of hospitals, patients, and what he sees as their duty to the environment, Adams said people are “hypocrites” who won’t “have a real conversation on what food is doing to us.”

It is not clear whether Adams contemplated the dietary needs of hospitalized patients.

On the same day, Chief Climate Officer of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Rohit T. Aggarwala, released a study with Adams that they said was the first “greenhouse gas inventory” done for New York. The study claims that food production and consumption make up 20 percent of the city’s emissions. This is behind “building” and “transportation, at 35% and 21%, respectively.

Adams appears to believe that meat and food derived from animals are “nutritionally void.” That kind of food “has a major impact on the health of a person’s mental state,” he said.
