NYPD Police Officer Busted in Drug Ring

(RepublicanNews.org) – Cries to “defund the police” have echoed in American cities for months in the wake of social and political unrest at the hands of leftist activists. Calls of unfair policing practices echoed in the streets. However, amid all this turmoil, law enforcement agencies continue performing their duties, even when investigating one of their own.

A perfect case in point is the November 9 announcement of the arrest of a nine-year New York Police Department (NYPD) officer, Amaury Abreau, on federal charges for conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine.

Officer Abreau, along with two co-defendants, allegedly participated in an international drug ring distributing cocaine in the New York metropolitan area and the Dominican Republic. If convicted, all three defendants face a mandatory sentence ranging from a minimum of 10 years to a maximum of life imprisonment.

Of particular note is the involvement of local officials in the investigation, including officers assigned to the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Division and agents working for New York City’s Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office.

The willingness of New York City law enforcement to arrest and prosecute one of their own serves as a shining example of their commitment to maintaining law and order.
