(RepublicanNews.org) – Republican Congressional Representative Elise Stefanik of New York said a House subcommittee will soon address the topic of the US response to foreign aircraft after the Chinese balloon debacle over the past week.
She said President Joe Biden “abysmally” failed by allowing the 200-foot balloon to float unmolested across the US and over several military bases for an entire week before ordering it to be shot down on February 4th over the Atlantic ocean.
While the Chinese government insists that the balloon – which was four times larger than most giant balloons at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade — was a meteorological device, the US believes it was a spy craft.
Stefanik said she sits on the House Armed Services Committee and intends to investigate why the White House allowed a “Chinese communist spy balloon” to float undisturbed over US airspace. She called it “unacceptable.”
President Joe Biden addressed the nation Tuesday, February 7th, with the annual State of the Union speech. The State of the Union is a traditional annual address that many see as having evolved into just another campaign speech for incumbent presidents. Many questioned how Biden would address questions about the handling of the Chinese balloon, among other hot-button issues.
When asked what he expected from the President’s State of the Union address, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-IN) replied “dizzying spin.” Emmer said Biden had been ineffective at controlling rising prices and inflation as the nation endured a historically unique and heavy-handed response to the coronavirus.
Biden’s popularity is at historical lows among voters of both parties after several years of record-high inflation and unemployment.
Stefanik said Republicans will soon hold hearings on how the Chinese balloon was handled, as well as other matters. There have been many whistleblowers in federal agencies who have stood up to say that corruption and political maneuvering drives their actions, and Americans need to know this, she said.
