Pelosi Just Made Joe Manchin A Very Alarming Offer
(RepublicanNews.org) – Threats of a government shutdown looming in the distance, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), along with other top Democrats, may have to support a side deal with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) to avoid it. The possibility of signing an agreement with the moderate lawmaker has much of the liberal caucus in the House on edge. The issue has put those in leadership roles in a tough spot as they have to decide between a potential government shutdown or making the progressive part of their party angry.

Pelosi recently spoke with The Hill and talked about a stopgap funding measure called a continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a shutdown. However, the Senate is in charge of passing such legislation, and Democrats need 10 Republican votes to secure it. Many right-wing senators have expressed concern about the deal between Manchin, Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and President Biden.
Manchin agreed to the deal, which guaranteed him a voice relating to the expedition of energy infrastructure projects. In exchange, he offered his support to the health and climate bill that took effect in August. The agreement dictated there would be a vote on permitting reform by October 1. Pelosi mentioned coming to the agreement but noted there was never any talk detailing how the tally would go.
The liberal leaders’ deal with Manchin is upsetting a substantial portion of their party in the House. At least 71 Representatives have signaled they don’t like Pelosi’s idea to include Manchin’s permitting reform with government funding, claiming it forces them to choose between a government shutdown or allowing for more pollution.
