Pence Announces First Two Space Force Bases (REPORT)

( – Established on December 20, 2019, the US Space Force (USSF) set several historical firsts this week. On December 10, the first seven individuals enlisted directly into the USSF graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. About 312 Space Force enlistees are expected to graduate by the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2021.

In another first, Vice President Mike Pence announced two Air Force facilities’ formal re-designation during a ceremony rich with pomp and circumstance. The two affected bases now carry the new designations of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Patrick Space Force Base.

Although the re-designation is currently limited to name changes only, senior Space Force officials say it’s an important first step towards creating a distinct culture for the country’s newest military force.

Vice President Pence praised the historical event, calling it a “great day for America.” He also talked about the extraordinary contributions the Space Force will provide to the nation’s security and the cause of freedom.
