Republican Breaks Down Over Visit to Border

( – The mounting crisis on the border has taken a toll on Americans, from the Customs and Border Patrol agents providing border security services to the immigration judges trying to come up with equitable solutions to difficult, often heartbreaking situations.

A group of 24 House Republicans toured sections of the US-Mexico border in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday, June 29, and the early morning hours on Wednesday. Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, organized the trip.

It was the first trip for many delegation members, including first-term Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL). She told The Hill she felt like crying as she surveyed a large group of migrant children who had just crossed the border illegally at around 1 a.m.

Continuing her story, Miller talked about the sad reality that President Joe Biden contributed to the tragic “humanitarian crisis” she witnessed that night. “These desperate people” just want a better life for themselves and their loved ones, and Biden gave them the false sense of hope that they’d be welcome once they arrived at the border.

As Miller pointed out, America isn’t perfect, “we have [our] warts.” But, the United States is the “most free… and prosperous” nation on earth, and that’s the reason why these migrants arrive at our border daily. She’s right; there has to be a better way. It’s time for the Biden-Harris administration to stand up and do something or stand down and let someone else get the job done.
