(RepublicanNews.org) – Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is not popular with Republican lawmakers because of his approach to immigration control, and he may now face a vote of no confidence.
On April 18th, Republic Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas said we will introduce a resolution that would trigger that vote. Mayorkas is in the hot seat before the Senate Homeland Security Committee for what Republicans say is his failure to control illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border.
During hearings, Marshall said to Mayorkas, “You are derelict in your duties. I would be derelict not to do something about this.” He then announced in front of Mayorkas and the Committee that he was bringing out the no-confidence-vote resolution.
That may not be all Marshall is planning. He said he is standing “at the ready” to act on articles of impeachment if sent to him by the House, and he’s ready to initiate an impeachment trial against Mayorkas.
Marshall’s resolution says Secretary Mayorkas has “engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with his constitutional and statutory duties” as DHS Secretary. It accuses him of failing to get and keep control of the southern border.
Further, the resolution states that more than 5-and-a-half-million illegal aliens have crossed from Mexico into the US during Mayorkas’ tenure, with 20 straight months where more than 150,000 illegal border crossings took place.
Marshall’s resolution also points out that Mayorkas cooperated with the Biden administration’s false claims in 2021 that Border Patrol agents were “whipping” Haitian migrants. A photo of Border agents on horseback went viral that year, with many claiming that it depicted US agents using whips on the backs of black illegal migrants.
That was not true. The “whips” seen in the photographs were actually reins for the horses; agents were not whipping anyone. Yet President Biden claimed the “whipping” occurred. Mayorkas backed up the President’s claim despite having been told hours before he did so that no whipping incident occurred.
