Soccer Star Caught Up in a Las Vegas Rape Case

( – Athletes in professional sports sometimes feel entitled to just about anything, which can lead them to engage in destructive behavior. In the case of one soccer superstar, a woman recently accused him of sexual assault, but Las Vegas Police looking into the matter have hit an unusual snag.

Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United allegedly sexually assaulted Kathryn Mayorga in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009. While the soccer star fiercely denies these accusations, authorities initially believed they had enough evidence to bring in Ronaldo. They even got an arrest warrant from a local judge shortly before they intended to bring the man to justice.

Unfortunately, the arrest never took place. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stopped the effort in its tracks.

Wolfson ultimately disagreed with authorities and shut down the case. According to a report from The Sun, Mayorga’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, indicated that police submitted the arrest warrant, only for DA Wolfson to refuse to prosecute the case.

Ronaldo never faced any charges.

In 2018, Mayorga again filed for an investigation into the assault. Las Vegas Police followed up on it even though the incident occurred nine years ago. Authorities submitted another request for prosecution to the Clark County DA’s office in 2019. DA Wolfson once again refused to prosecute the soccer superstar, restating that no charges were being presented.

The New York Post writes that Ronaldo dismisses Mayorga’s claims as “fake news.” Yet, a year after the supposed attack, the soccer star suddenly settled with his accuser out of court for $375,000. Mayorga is now seeking an additional $75 million in damages.
