(RepublicanNews.org) – A high school in Queens, New York, was the scene of a riot after students discovered a Jewish teacher attended a pro-Israel protest in the immediate aftermath of Hamas’ surprise terror attack on October 7th.
In what was reportedly a two-hour mayhem, teenagers stormed through the halls of Hillcrest High School in Jamaica shortly after 11 am on Monday, November 20th. The teacher, who was forced into hiding in a cupboard during the rampage, had updated her Facebook profile picture to show her attendance at the rally while holding a sign that said: “I stand with Israel.”
During the school protest, hundreds of teenagers engaged in pro-Palestine chanting, shouting, and waving Palestinian flags, according to the New York Post. Footage of the commotion was shared on social media, with jeers directed towards the teacher in question. Clips also showed a destroyed water fountain in the school’s hallway and smashed tiles in the second-floor boys’ bathroom.
The NYPD responded at around 11:20 am just before students planned to rush the teacher into a locked office. Not only were dozens of police officers sent to the scene, but City Councilman James Gennaro said officials were investigating a possible terrorism threat against the school.
“Whether it was one student or multiple students” who did or said something, whatever the trigger was, something happened, Gennaro said, adding that the NYPD’s counterterrorism task force is not utilized unless there is believed to be a potentially serious situation.
In a statement to the Post, the teacher said she was “shaken to my core” over the calls for violence online and in the school against her over the profile picture.
Unrest among New York students has been ongoing since fighting broke out between Israel and Haas in October. On November 9th, around 700 NYC high school students participated in a pro-Palestinian citywide walkout to call for a ceasefire, more than two weeks before a ceasefire was finally agreed.
