Two Lawmakers Take a Secret Trip to Kabul

( – President Joe Biden has done everything in his power to downplay the mounting crisis in Afghanistan. He refuses to extend the August 31 withdrawal deadline despite calls from Democrats, Republicans and allies. Now, his administration is expressing outrage about two US Representatives wanting to see what was happening on the ground in Kabul.

Representatives Peter Meijer (R-MI) and Seth Moulton (D-MA) took a secret trip to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on August 24. Both men served in Iraq and issued a joint statement explaining they have a duty as members of Congress to provide oversight, particularly over the executive branch’s actions. Moreover, as they said, America has a “moral obligation” to provide for the safety of American citizens and “loyal allies.”

After viewing the situation in Kabul, they reported that it was painfully obvious that Biden has no choice but to extend the deadline for complete withdrawal. In fact, they said the US cannot complete the mission by September 11, Biden’s original goal, before he caved to Taliban demands.

Sadly, the situation in Afghanistan became all too real on August 26 after Pentagon officials confirmed the deaths of several US service members as the result of two explosions near Kabul’s international airport.

A few hours later, media outlets started reporting about a possible third explosion. We will keep you updated on further developments in this breaking story as more information becomes available.
