Virginia Elaine Luria Loses To Republican Senator Jen Kiggans
(RepublicanNews.org) – The midterms were disappointing for the GOP to say the least. While their red wave never occurred, the party was still able to pick up some crucial wins in Congress. One of those wins was in Virginia where state Senator Jen Kiggans (R) beat the incumbent Representative Elaine Luria (D-VA).

The showdown between the two candidates was one of the most anticipated of the 2022 midterms. Analysts were unsure of who was going to win the hotly contested seat. After the final count, the winner was clearly Kiggans, who earned nearly 52% of the vote. Her Democratic opponent only won 47.9%.
While the Republican candidate’s win was major for her, it was even bigger for her party, which has been a favorite to gain control of the lower chamber of Congress. Kiggans didn’t beat just any Democrat; she defeated a member of the January 6 Committee who had been investigating the incident, when Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in protest of the 2020 election results.
Kiggans’s win is another sign of Virginia leaning more Republican after three GOP candidates — Governor Glenn Youngkin, Attorney General Jason Miyares, and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle Sears — all won the district in 2021, effectively flipping all three positions. Now Kiggans has flipped a fourth while also taking out a January 6 Committee member.
