Navy SEALs Go Missing During Night Mission

(RepublicanNews.org) – According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), two sailors from the United States Navy reported missing shortly after falling into the water during a midnight boarding operation off the coast of Somalia have been recognized as SEALs.

A report revealed new information regarding their operation to hijack a ship bound for Somalia with parts for Iranian ballistic missiles with a medium range has surfaced.

Navy special warfare crews steered small special ops combat boats to transport the SEALs to the USS Lewis B. Puller, an expeditionary sea-based vessel. Around 8 p.m. local time, when they were getting on it in severe conditions, huge waves pushed off one SEAL, and his comrade dove in after him. They are both missing, and rescue efforts are ongoing.

American officials who spoke with the media said the Gulf of Aden waters were relatively warm while they were in operation.

The US and the UK have recently carried out retaliatory strikes in Yemen, but according to officials, this incident had nothing to do with Operation Prosperity Guardian, an ongoing international mission to protect commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Officials further said that the event had nothing to do with Iran’s seizure of an oil ship.

The official reason for the SEALs’ objective and the ship they attempted to board are still unknown. U.S. CENTCOM said it wouldn’t release more information until the recovery effort was finished.

Meanwhile, on January 14th, a U.S. fighter plane intercepted a missile aimed at an American warship in the Red Sea. The rocket had been launched from Yemeni territory held by Houthi militants. The U.S. military confirmed the incident.

After attacks on rebel-controlled locations in Yemen by the United States and its allies—the most recent of which hit a Houthi radar facility on Saturday night—the Houthis launched their assault.

In response to weeks of assaults on international ships by the Houthis, the U.S. and British forces have targeted over sixty sites.
