(RepublicanNews.org) – The ideological mind virus known as “woke” strikes again, and this time it’s coming for some of your favorite classic films. Writer and director Kenya Barris said that such legendary Hollywood classics like “It’s A Wonderful Life” and the “Wizard of Oz” will be getting “diverse” reboots.
While attending the Sundance Film Festival, Barris spoke with Variety and confirmed that he is currently writing scripts for both classic films.
Barris said the “Wizard of Oz” would be retold using a “different point of view” while getting a stylistic make-over. According to Barris, the original film was set during the Great Depression and portrayed themes of “self-reliance” and escaping tough times. The writer/director said he believes it’s now “the perfect time” to change the characters and themes toward “a hero’s journey” while telling a grass-is-always-greener story. Barris said he wants the audience “to be proud and happy about where they’re from.”
Barris also spoke about remaking the 1946 classic by Frank Capra, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” starring Jimmy Stewart. The writer/director said he thinks Christmas movies “are amazing” and likes the idea of taking something with a long history and telling the same story but changing the main character to a “person of color” who is trying to help “his community.” He said this is “the perfect story” for a black character because black communities “have some issues” and need help.
Barris appeared on “The Tonight Show” in January 2023 and hinted at the reboots to host Jimmy Fallon, mentioning a few upcoming projects, including a reimagining of the “Wizard of Oz” that would feature “diverse characters” and “turn a mirror to society.” He told Fallon it’s time for this because society needs to see itself.
How well these reboots will do at the box office remains to be seen, but more and more Americans are growing tired of political browbeating in their entertainment and will surely make themselves heard with every dollar spent.
