(RepublicanNews.org) – Shifting gears once again, presidential candidate Cornel West has announced the formation of a new political party to support his 2024 campaign, once again changing his campaign approach.
West first announced he was running for president on June 5th, 2023, as a member of the Green Party. Shortly after, West abandoned the party and his quest for its nomination and announced he would run as an independent instead. Now, he’s forming his own party and running as its only candidate.
On Wednesday, January 31st, West announced in a press release the creation of a new party called the “Justice for All Party” and that he would now be running as a candidate under this party. He said he and his team are “on the move” to use the party to “gain access to the ballot” in states where it’s more difficult to do so as an independent. He described the party’s initiative as “a strategic… community-driven effort” to extend the “reach and impact” of his campaign’s platform “across the nation.”
In the press release, West said the new party is “inspired by the legacies” of various “transformative figures,” such as Martin Luther King Jr., Dorothy Day, Cesar, Chavez, and other leftwing historical figures. The academic and activist said the party’s creation is “a response” to a need in America for a political system that’s “more inclusive and equitable.”
West has been a notable public intellectual, philosopher, theologian, lecturer, and activist in American politics for decades, frequently appearing on television. He’s also the author of several books, including “Race Matters,” published in 1993.
West is one of several third-party or independent candidates in the 2024 presidential race, the most notable of which is probably Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The nephew of former President John F. Kennedy comes from a long line of Democrats and originally announced his bid for the party’s nomination. A few months in, he relaunched his campaign as an independent.
