(RepublicanNews.org) – Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the official deployment of his state’s National Guard to aid the Texas National Guard in stopping the waves of illegal immigration over the southern border.
DeSantis announced on February 1st that up to 1,000 Florida National Guard (FNG) members would be deployed to the southern border in Texas. The FNG members will also be accompanied by the Florida State Guard. DeSantis said the deployment will be “based on Texas’ needs.”
In a statement, DeSantis reaffirmed his position that each state has “every right” to defend its sovereignty and that Florida is “pleased to increase… support to Texas” as the state “works to stop the invasion” of illegals crossing the border from Mexico. Without a border, the Florida governor said Americans “don’t have a country.”
DeSantis promised the deployment immediately after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott defied a Supreme Court order last month allowing Border Patrol agents to continue removing razor wire installed by Texas along the southern border. The court decision followed an incident where three people died while trying to cross the Rio Grande River to enter the US illegally; after their deaths, Border Patrol tried to access the area where the immigrants died and was turned away by Texas law enforcement.
After the court gave the nod of approval, Abbott declared the southern border crisis to be an invasion in a statement on January 24th, arguing that the federal government has left Texas no choice but to take matters into its own hands by failing to fulfill its own responsibility to enforce existing immigration laws. Since making the stand, multiple Republican governors have stood up for Abbott, and even the Border Patrol has refused to comply with the court’s order allowing them to remove barriers.
This isn’t the first time DeSantis sent help to the border in Texas. Since 2021, the Sunshine State has been sending law enforcement and military personnel to the Lone Star State, proving Texas is not alone in its fight after all.
