(RepublicanNews.org) – Tennessee has just become the latest state to pledge members of its National Guard toward securing the southern border in Texas, lending support to the Lone Star State during its ongoing showdown with President Joe Biden and his administration over how the immigration crisis should be managed.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is the latest Republican governor to support Texas Gov Greg Abbott and the Lone Star State’s efforts to secure the southern border.
Lee, who paid a visit to Eagle Pass in early February, went to the National Guard Armory in Millington to meet with members of the Tennessee National Guard before they set off on their voluntary mission. The Tennessee governor said that his state is “showing the rest of the country what it means to lead” at a time when Americans face “the most severe border crisis in decades.” Lee said their voluntary deployment is because the federal government has failed to act.
The first batch to be deployed consists of 50 soldiers. They will remain at the border until the end of March, after which they are to be replaced by a second wave. Lee did not specify where, exactly, in Texas the troops would be stationed.
When he visited Eagle Pass, Lee was accompanied by other Republicans, including Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Ever since the Biden administration ramped up its efforts to stop Abbott from securing his state’s border on their own and the Texas governor stood up to them in defiance, other governors stepped up to support him. One notable example is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has sent multiple waves of Florida National Guard and law enforcement to assist with securing the border.
Republicans have put all of the blame for the current crisis on the White House and accuse the Biden administration of worsening the crisis by reversing Trump-era policies and refusing to enforce immigration laws already on the books. Even some of Biden’s party members are losing patience with Biden’s handling of the situation.
At the end of last year, a record number of encounters were recorded in December, which saw over 300,000 illegal crossings. As Biden tries to shift the blame for the crisis onto Republicans for blocking a recent aid package and immigration law reforms, the GOP is not satisfied with his efforts and found the package severely lacking in the reforms needed.
