Republican Lawmakers Plan Blockade Following Trump Verdict

(RepublicanNews.org) – Following the guilty verdict against Donald Trump on 34 federal charges of falsifying records, Republicans have spoken of their outrage at the trial and its outcome.

Trump and many of his supporters have maintained that the unusual trial was politically motivated and unfair. The prosecution accused Trump of paying hush money to Stormy Daniels over an alleged affair, and then classifying the payment as a “legal expense”.

Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s eldest son, told supporters that they needed to “fight fire with fire,” and many Republicans appear to agree. A group of eight GOP senators have promised to prevent any future Biden nominees from being approved. They also say they will do what they can to block any legislation prioritized by the Democrats.

Their counterparts in the Republican-led House have several plans for the near future. GOP representatives have declared their intentions to quiz the prosecutors who sought federal charges for Trump. They also wish to defund special counsel Jack Smith’s work. Smith oversees the classified documents case relating to documentation recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. In addition to these goals, they are also looking to remove federal funding from New York State.

Sen. Mark Rubio (R-FL) posted a message telling people not to get angry but to “get even” alongside a link to the Republican fundraising platform WinRed. The WinRed website crashed hours after the verdict due to a sudden influx of visitors looking to contribute to the Republican party financially. Both Republican campaign arms of the Senate and House have since confirmed a surge in donations following Trump’s conviction.

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) is one of the lawmakers who has promised to block Democrat movements in the Senate. He noted the jump in fundraising and said that the verdict has turned the election campaign into more of a “cause” for Americans. He added that the U.S. now had to choose between being a “constitutional republic or a banana republic.”
