Nikki Haley Endorses Trump Before Delegates

(RepublicanNews.org) – Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has finally given her public endorsement of Donald Trump. Speaking at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, July 16th, Haley was firm in her support of her former rival and encouraged those with misgivings about Trump to vote for him anyway.

When Haley ran for the Republican nomination, she and Trump butted heads several times. He famously called her a “birdbrain”, and she, in turn, suggested that he should take a cognitive ability test. After dropping out of the presidential race in March, Haley still refused to endorse Trump. Instead, she said that it would be up to the former president to win over undecided voters, including her own supporters. By May, she had softened her stance slightly, telling the public that she would vote for him, although she still demurred from encouraging her supporters to do the same.

Haley remained resolute in keeping her distance from Trump and his candidacy and originally was not invited to the Republican National Convention. That changed after Trump’s attempted assassination on Saturday, July 13th. Haley was quick to offer her support and prayers to Trump and his family and was shortly thereafter invited to speak at the convention by the presidential nominee himself. She described the gesture as “gracious” and said that she was pleased to accept the invitation.

Haley’s message was one of unity, telling the crowd that the GOP must work together in order to “save” the U.S. from the Democrats. Haley told the crowd that although there were policies on which she and Trump did not agree, they did agree on the need to keep the U.S. safe, and strong, and to protect American freedoms that have been “put in danger” by the Democrats’ leadership.

Haley, who was appointed a U.N. ambassador under Trump, praised his presidency and said that Americans had been “well-served” by his administration. She spoke highly of his national security policies and added that he is able to accept advice and ideas from others around him.
