Democrat Governor Turns on Biden

(RepublicanNews.org) – Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs broke her silence about her feelings on President Joe Biden remaining the party’s presidential nominee after the president’s abysmal first debate performance and ongoing questions about his mental acuity and physical endurance.

Biden recently met with several Democratic governors, including Hobbs, who has now changed her tune of unwavering support and then silence about the president as the party’s nominee since his first debate performance against former President Donald Trump. When reporters tracked down Hobbs to question her about whether or not Biden should remain at the top of the ticket, she said it was “up to the president.”

Although she did not share any details about her “private” meeting with Biden, Hobbs said she is aware that many of her constituents were concerned “about the president’s age.” She said those concerns have become more at the top of Arizonans’ minds since Biden’s performance during the first presidential debate and that Biden “has a lot to do to assure” voters in her state and the rest of the country “over the coming weeks.”

Hobbs said Biden is aware he had to prove himself but concluded that she believes he can still “do the job.” The governor said her own choice in the election is “abundantly clear,” and that she still supports Biden because he will “uphold democracy” while the former president is “trying to tear it down.”

Compared to some of the other takes out there, Hobbs’s position is rather tame. Actor George Clooney, who was a major advocate for Biden’s campaign, suddenly changed his mind and recently published an op-ed with The New York Post asking Biden to withdraw from the race. Clooney said that while he “loves” the president, he believes the party “needs a new nominee.”

Trump, who is leading in nearly all swing states, is ahead of Biden by at least five points in Arizona, according to RealClearPolitics. A new Ipsos poll also found that about two out of three Americans believe Biden should step aside.
