FBI Most Wanted Snared In Somalia

A key Feeding Our Future suspect is back in U.S. custody after a long run that ended in Somalia.

Quick Take

  • Federal officials say Abdikerm Eidleh was taken into custody in Mogadishu, Somalia, on June 25, 2026.[2]
  • Prosecutors tied him to a 2022 indictment that charged 31 counts, including wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering.[2]
  • The case centers on fake meal sites, shell companies, and claims that thousands of children were fed each day.[1][2]
  • Federal officials also say the Feeding Our Future scheme pushed more than $240 million in fraud losses.[1][4]

Federal Charges Followed Him Across Borders

Federal prosecutors say Abdikerm Eidleh was taken into custody in Mogadishu after nearly four years on the run.[2] The Justice Department says he was originally indicted on September 13, 2022, on 31 counts that include wire fraud, federal programs bribery, and money laundering.[2] The arrest closes one chapter in a case that became a symbol of how badly federal child nutrition money can be abused.

The indictment says Eidleh helped run a scheme tied to the Feeding Our Future fraud case.[2] Prosecutors allege he built his own child nutrition sites with nominee owners and then falsely claimed thousands of children were being served each day.[2] They also say he asked for and received bribes and kickbacks from people and companies that wanted approval for fake meal sites, often hiding the money as consulting fees through shell companies.[2]

The Fraud Pattern Prosecutors Describe

The Justice Department says Eidleh deposited more than $5 million in kickbacks, bribes, and fraud proceeds into accounts linked to his shell companies.[2] Prosecutors also say he used fake meal vendor companies and submitted fraudulent invoices to pull taxpayer money into the scheme.[2] Those allegations fit the larger Feeding Our Future fraud case, which federal officials have described as one of the biggest pandemic fraud schemes in the country.[1][4]

That larger case involved more than 250 sites across Minnesota and more than $240 million in federal child nutrition funds, according to the Justice Department.[1] Federal officials say the sites claimed to serve huge numbers of meals, but many did little or no real feeding.[1] A Finance Crimes Enforcement Network alert also said Minnesota fraud rings exploited the program by using shell companies and false meal claims to steal federal money meant for children.[7]

Why This Arrest Matters Now

Federal officials and the Federal Bureau of Investigation say Eidleh was one of the key figures in the scheme.[3][4] The bureau called him one of the orchestrators and said he was the second most significant figure after Aimee Bock.[3][4] That matters because the federal government has spent years trying to unwind the damage from a fraud that hit taxpayers hard and left honest families with yet another example of government failure.

At the same time, the public should remember what the record does and does not show. The indictment lays out serious allegations, but it is still an accusation until tested in court.[2] The latest federal release says Eidleh was taken into custody, but it does not provide a public trial record, defense response, or bank audit that independently confirms every dollar alleged.[2] Even so, the charges point to a deep abuse of a program meant to help needy children.

What Comes Next in the Case

The Justice Department has not said in the public release whether Eidleh has already had an arraignment since the arrest.[2] That leaves important questions about extradition, court dates, and the next steps in the case. For now, the main fact is clear: one of the long-running fugitives in the Feeding Our Future scandal has been brought back into custody, and federal prosecutors now have a chance to press the case in court.[2]
