GOP Candidate To Suspend Negative Advertising

(RepublicanNews.org) – A Republican Pennsylvania Senate candidate is calling to suspend all “negative advertising” in his campaign about his opponent following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

On Monday, July 15th, GOP Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick called for a truce on negative campaign ads between himself and his Democratic opponent, Bob Casey. The 58-year-old Republican hopeful posted the message on social media “in light of the assassination attempt” on Trump in Butler County and said he agrees with President Joe Biden and proposed to Casey that both of them suspend their “negative advertising.”

McCormick wrote that it was “time to come together as Americans” by recognizing that what makes the US exceptional “transcends” political parties. He suggested Americans as well as his opponent take “time to put aside the negativity.”

Casey’s campaign reportedly started temporarily suspending ads immediately following the incident. The Democrat said he hoped the attempt on Trump’s life would be a moment where people “all step back” to think. Casey said political violence was “not a party thing” and “un-American.” He hopes that the assassination attempt will give everyone “pause and help dial down the temperature.”

In a recent interview, McCormick also said Trump wanted to invite him on stage with him at the Butler County, Pennsylvania, rally and then changed his mind, telling the GOP candidate “to come up later.” McCormick said that the shots were fired about two minutes later. The next day, he published an eyewitness account of that day with The Wall Street Journal.

In that account, McCormick said that the “one inch” by which the bullet missed Trump “may be a metaphor for how close” the country is “to an internal breakdown.” He also claims that bullets whizzed over his head.

Similar to McCormick and Casey, Biden called for “unity” after the shooting. He also reached out to the family of the victim killed, but they refused to speak with him. The incident also resulted in a wave of public endorsements for Trump, including from billionaire Elon Musk.
