Man Kills Wife and Children in Gruesome Murder-Suicide

(RepublicanNews.org) – The bodies of a wife and four children were discovered in their home on Monday, all of whom were fatally stabbed in an apparent murder-suicide in Honolulu, Hawaii.

According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), a man stabbed his three children and his wife and then fatally stabbed himself. In a news conference on Sunday, March 10, HPD Chief Joe Logan said the crime scene his first responding officers found on Waaloa Place around 9 AM was “traumatic” and called the incident the deadliest in the area since the 1999 Xerox shootings that killed seven people. He said such violent crimes don’t “normally happen in Hawaii.”

Although their identities were not initially released, Hawaii News Now (HNN) confirmed the perpetrator on Tuesday, March 12th, as 46-year-old Paris Oda, who killed his wife and kids before taking his own life. His wife was 48-year-old Naoko Oda, and the children were Nana, 10; Orion, 12; and Sakurako, 17.

Investigators found that although Oda had some past financial troubles, he had no record or history of violent behavior. He worked near Ala Moana Center as a chiropractor, and none of his social media posts or public records indicate signs of homicidal or suicidal intentions. When reporters interviewed his mother, Annette Oda, she said she and the rest of the family were “wrestling with the news” but would not comment on any signs indicating her son was capable of homicidal rage.

Oda did have one brush with the law in his late teens when he was charged with tampering in 1997, but that charge was eventually stricken from his record. Despite this one incident and some financial trouble in 2017 and 2021, there was no indication of any recent such troubles.

Oda’s oldest daughter, Sakurako, was a high school senior at the Iolani School where a memorial service was held on Monday, March 11th. All of the children’s schools offered counseling to employees and students.

Rick Blangiardi, the Mayor of Honolulu, said in a statement on Sunday that he was “heartbroken” by the news.
