(RepublicanNews.org) – As the Big Apple continues struggling with the ongoing immigration crisis, it’s New York City taxpayers footing the bill to house and feed all of the new arrivals, with over $1 billion allocated to keep hotels in business that have been converted into shelters.
Recent reports found that the average cost to spend a single night at one of the hotel shelters can run anywhere from $156 to $300. So far, the city has dropped a whopping $1.98 billion on accommodating the immigrants, a substantial amount of whom have crossed into the U.S. illegally.
The influx was also sped up by governors of red states, such as Texas and Florida, who have been packing the immigrants onto buses and shipping them over into blue land to make a political statement and distribute the care of these individuals. These Republican governors argue that if the Democratic politicians who pushed the initial policies and ethos that led to the current situation wanted to help every destitute person from another country, then they should share in the consequences of that a larger portion than Americans who did not vote for this.
The multi-million dollar contracts arranged between the city and the hotels have transformed entire neighborhoods through the Burroughs, from Midtown Manhattan, where Row NYC receives $5.13 million every month from the government to keep its 335 rooms occupied by illegal aliens, to South Jamaica, Queens, where the Crowne Plaza JFK receives $2 million every month.
The transformation impacts local businesses in the surrounding areas, and they are feeling the effects of the loss in revenue as tourists who used to occupy the hotels and spend are now gone while illegal aliens with no money look for ways to obtain it.
GOP Councilwoman Joann Ariola slammed the city for gutting the tourist industry in neighborhoods throughout the city, noting that the very purpose of hotels is to “boost the economy” by housing tourists, and people who are “pouring over our borders every day.”
