Best Buy’s Insignia air fryer faces an emergency recall due to critical fire hazard concerns.

At a Glance

  • Best Buy has recalled several Insignia air fryer models due to fire risks.
  • Over 287,000 units sold in the U.S. and Canada between Nov. 2021 and Nov. 2023 are affected.
  • Customers must stop using these products immediately and apply for a refund.
  • The recall was issued after 24 incidents, including six fires but no injuries.

Wide-Ranging Recall

Best Buy has initiated an emergency recall of the Insignia Digital Air Fryer and Insignia Air Fryer Oven models. Over 190,000 units in the U.S. and nearly 100,000 in Canada are subject to this recall. Regulatory agencies, including the Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC), have identified that these air fryers pose significant fire and burn hazards. The CPSC has mandated that consumers should stop using the recalled units immediately.

Specific models in the recall include: NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2, and NS-AF10DSS2. The fryers can overheat, causing handles to melt or break, and doors to shatter, leading to potential fire, burn, and laceration hazards. There have been 24 reported incidents, including six fires, but fortunately, no injuries have occurred to date.

Immediate Consumer Action Needed

The notice from the CPSC is unequivocal: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens.” The recall includes products sold from November 2021 through November 2023, priced between $32 and $180, and distributed through Best Buy, eBay.com, and various third-party sellers.

“The recall notice asks customers not to return their product to Best Buy stores,” a quote reinforced by numerous safety alerts. Customers are instead directed to visit www.recallrtr.com/airfryer and fill out a form on the website to receive a refund in the form of a check or store credit. Consumers must show photographic evidence that they have cut the cord of the air fryer so that it cannot be used.

The urgency of halting the use of these air fryers cannot be overstated. Safety measures, such as consumers checking the underside of their appliance to verify model numbers, are crucial steps in preventing potential hazards from these defective units.
