(RepublicanNews.org) – Former President Trump said he would be willing to debate Vice President Kamala Harris if she becomes the Democratic nominee, and that he would do so more than once.
On Tuesday, July 23rd, Fox News reporter Bill Melugin asked Trump during a conference call if he would promise to debate Harris. “Absolutely,” the former president replied, adding that he wants to and thinks “it’s important” to do so.
Trump said he would actually “be willing to do more than one debate” with Harris before the November election. He then clarified that he hasn’t “agreed to anything” yet and technically only agreed to debate Biden.
Biden surprised the country on Sunday, July 21st, by doing an about-face and dropping out of the 2024 presidential race after weeks of adamantly stating he would not withdraw. Calls for him to step aside began to increase after an abysmal first debate performance against Trump on June 27th, and pressure mounted from within the Democratic Party, which instantly went into panic mode.
An anonymous insider close to the Biden family recently claimed top-ranking Democrats used the debate as a setup to turn the rest of the party against Biden so it would be easier to usher him out and replace him as the candidate with Vice President Kamala Harris, who Biden endorsed after dropping out.
Trump said a coup may have taken place, while his newly chosen running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, sounded more certain during a recent interview featuring the two candidates. Vance also criticized Democrats for not using the 25th Amendment to expel Biden, which he said would be more appropriate to the situation considering his obvious decline and questionable ability to serve the remainder of his term.
Biden did not show any indication that he intended to resign. In his first address since dropping out, aired on Wednesday, July 24th, Biden reiterated that he would focus on finishing his term over the next six months.
Trump said a debate with Harris would “be no different” because she and Biden “have the same policies.” The former president said he believes the nominees have “an obligation to debate” and that he considered it “very important,” adding that he still was not thrilled with ABC hosting the debate.
