Trump Receives Shocking Boost from Independents Following Conviction

(RepublicanNews.org) – A new poll conducted in Georgia shows that a growing number of Independent voters in battleground states are leaning toward casting their ballot for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election after the announcement of his conviction in New York.

The unprecedented decision on Thursday, May 30th by a Manhattan jury marked the first time in American history that a former president has been found guilty of a felony. Trump was convicted on all 34 counts against him for falsifying business records to hide hush payments meant to cover up an alleged affair before the 2016 election. That jury decision inevitably impacts voters’ choices heading into the election, which a Quinnipiac University poll analyzed.

The university published the poll on Wednesday, June 5th, which showed that an increasing number of voters registered as Independents are considering Trump over President Joe Biden for the 2024 presidential election. The poll surveyed 1,203 voters in the Peach State and 21% of the Independent voters responded that they are more likely to vote for Trump in November following the announcement of his conviction.

Eighteen percent of Independent voters said the conviction made them feel less likely to support the former president. Sixty-one percent said the Manhattan jury decision had no impact on their vote.

In total, 22% of all Georgian voters surveyed said the verdict lessened their chances of voting for Trump while 23% said it increased the likelihood that they would vote for him. Fifty-four percent of all registered voters said it made no difference in their choice.

The poll indicates some possible trouble down the road for President Joe Biden, who was already having trouble in battleground states, as the conviction appears to be backfiring. On top of increased Independent voter support, Trump has pulled into record-breaking sums in donations. Trump also recently joined TikTok and crushed Biden’s numbers on the platform in a few days.
