Trump Teases VP Announcement Ahead of GOP Convention

(RepublicanNews.org) – With the Republican National Convention just around the corner, former President Donald Trump continues to tease a running mate announcement, which he said will happen “not too much before” the July convention.

On Wednesday, May 1st, Trump visited Wisconsin on the campaign trail and teased his upcoming running mate announcement. He said he would “be picking” a potential vice president soon, “but probably not too much before” the Republican convention, which he reminded residents of Wisconsin would take place in their state.

The former president seems to be mirroring his 2016 campaign strategy. During that contest, Trump announced that then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence would be his running mate a week before the GOP convention, which also took place in July of that year.

There are four prospects rumored to be on Trump’s radar this time around: Republican Governor of North Dakota Doug Burgum, and GOP Sens. JD Vance of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida, and Tim Scott of South Carolina. There are also rumors Trump may tap Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after the two former rivals recently buried the hatchet. Vivek Ramaswamy has been floated as a possibility, too, although he’s previously stated he would not be interested in a second-in-command position. Former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has also expressed interest in taking on the role if asked by Trump.

Another prospective running mate is South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, although recent controversy surrounding the GOP governor may have reduced her desirability as a candidate. She provoked a lot of backlash recently after sharing an excerpt from her new book about shooting one of her dogs on her ranch many years ago, raising questions about her sense of ethics and debates about the realities of farming and rancher life.

Trump’s campaign told reporters that no one knows yet who the former president will choose or when he will make his decision final. They added that anyone who claims to know “is lying” unless Trump named that person himself.
