Republican News Brief:
- “Mental Survival” is the most important survival tool you’ll ever need.
- Here are 5 things you can do to mentally survive most any situation: stay calm, believe in yourself, turn panic and fear into positive mental energy, always maintain the will to survive, and learn to adapt and overcome any situation.
- If you’re ever in a survival situation, remember to do your best to assess the situation, try to remain calm, and focus on what you need to do to survive.
Here’s the Story:
(RepublicanNews.org) – Exposure to traumatic events can greatly impact how a person will respond to an emergency situation. Most people are never exposed to traumatic events, so when something does happen, it’s normal for a person to experience shock, disbelief, and naturally have sensory overload.
Unless you work in high-risk careers where YOU are the first responder, it’s difficult to know how you’re going to react. The more you expose yourself to traumatic events like those in first responder-type careers do, the more you’ll know how you’ll specifically react to different emergency situations.
It’s important to note that constant exposure to traumatic events doesn’t necessarily make those events any less traumatic. You never really get used to it but you learn how to respond and take action.
If you do ever find yourself in a traumatic event, here are some things you can focus on to help you get through the situation:
First, Remain Calm
What are you really up against? You might need to think quickly, but not assessing the situation could actually make things a lot worse. In situations where you must move quickly, commit yourself 100% and assess your situation when you’re safe.
Don’t Lose Faith In Yourself
Doubt and uncertainty almost always follow fear and panic. Don’t allow yourself to question your capabilities. Remind yourself of the other people who are depending on your for their survival.
Your loved ones may be looking to you for guidance. They’re counting on you. When you know and understand this, you can operate knowing that you can not only survive but that you are fighting for a greater cause.
Adjust Your Mindset
It may seem counterproductive on a normal day, but using your fear and panic to fuel an “animalistic” mindset is key. Look at whatever is threatening you through the eyes of a savage predator that would do anything to protect itself or its loved ones.
Who wants to live more? You or your attacker? Sometimes the best defense is a clearly aggressive strategy. The threat you’re facing isn’t normal, and it’s forcing you to act. Don’t stop moving until you’re all safe and your threat is no longer a concern.
Don’t Lose Your Will To Survive
Some believe survival to be a state of mind. Never allow yourself to believe death is near, even if the situation progresses or becomes worse. Not even for one second can you believe death is upon you. Use humor, sarcasm, and whatever other method you need to keep your spirits high and maintain a positive outlook.
Adapt To Overcome
The solution is out there – you just need to find it. It may seem like the odds are stacked, but sometimes surviving means playing a game of numbers. Not taking action or waiting for nature to take its course, in many cases, lowers your odds of survival.
Remember, survival is a state of mind. Only have a 1% chance of survival? Use that 1% for everything it’s worth. Your life, and those of all around you, depend on it.
